This is a one-time zoom class lasting approximately 2 hours.
Intricate patterning is possible on the rigid heddle loom! If you have ever wanted to know how to work more complex patterns on your loom this is the class for you. We will work through a small sampler in class to learn how to use one and two pick-up sticks in a pattern, and will also show how to work the leno lace pattern.
Skills you will learn or review:
leno lace
how to use one or two pick-up sticks to make a pattern
how to read a pick up pattern
Prerequisites:
students should be comfortable warping their loom and weaving plain weave independently.
Format:
For this Class you can choose to watch and ask questions or follow along with the instructor. If you would like to weave along, please warp your loom ahead of class and have shuttles wound with one contrasting color yarn and one similar or matching colored yarn.
You will also need 1-2 pick-up sticks.
The class also includes a pattern handout with several weaving patterns and a pattern to make placemats (pictured). If you would like to make this project specifically you will need:
500 yds of a sport/dk weight cotton or linen OR 1000 yds of a laceweight (or 8/2 equivalent) cotton or linen yarn helf double for the warp.
440 yards of a spork/dk weight cotton or linen for the weft in a contrasting color to your warp.
Warping instructions will be sent along with this pattern the week of class.
