Fitted garments are often a knitter's or crocheter's most difficult project. Even worse, when we try to make projects for ourselves, rounds and rounds of measurement and trying on still leave us with uncertainty about fit.
What we need is a clone of ourselves - but what we can do NOW is make the next best thing - a dress or fit form. Adjustable or custom forms can cost hundreds of dollars, and until you're used to using one for proper fit it can seem like a huge investment. So, why not make your own?
Come to class and Ana will guide you through the whole process. You and a classmate will help each other make your own dress forms and Ana will be there helping you the whole way!
What you will make: One duct tape dress form per person. We will discuss other ways of doing a DIY form, but there's nothing to beat duct tape for speed and ease.
What you need to know: Know if you can handle being wrapped in duct tape for up to 2 hours while we make the form on you.
What you need to bring: All class materials will be provided for with your materials fee. However, please come to class wearing a form-fitting top, and a close-fitting pair of pants, shorts, or leggings. This makes sure that the form is actually your size. If you have newspapers laying around, feel free to bring them - we will be using paper as a stiffer material for stuffing.
What you need to do: Make sure you provide HCW with your t-shirt size (Include in "notes" field when you checkout or call or email this information in the week before class), as the instructor will be bringing a t-shirt for every student to create the base layer of the form. This layer will be cut in the process, so don't worry about bringing your own.
