Elizabeth Zimmermann's classic pattern for a garter stitch vest can be a fascinating look into the mind of the godmother of modern knitting.  Mirror image sides knit identically, then are joined to knit the back in this topsy-turvy garter stitch and short-row masterpiece.  The latest version of the pattern has options for a knit-as-you-go I-cord edge, collar variations, shaping variations, and joining variations.  Best of all, this vest is the perfect layer for our not-so-frozen winters and windy springs!  Come learn to make this iconic vest in class with a miniature version and then get help with your own measurements and starting the pattern for your own full-size vest.
What you'll learn: left-right sweater symmetry, short rows, I-cord (both built-in and applied), provisional cast-on.
What you need to know: how to cast-on, knit, bind off.  Some experience with short-rows is helpful, but not necessary.
For the miniature version:
50-100 yds of worsted weight wool plus 25 yards of a contrasting color for I-cord edging
Size 7 or 8, 24" circular needle (whichever gets you 4 sts and 4 ridges to the inch in garter stitch.)
Stitch holder or spare, smaller size circular needle
For the full version:
4 (4,5,6) skeins of worsted weight yarn (210-220 yds per skein), for 36 (40,44,48)" circumference vest.  (At this fairly loose gauge, you may need less)
Size 7 or 8, 24" circular needle to get you 4 sts and 4 ridges to the inch in garter stitch
Stitch holder or spare, smaller size circular needles
Recommended for both versions: safety pins for marking different areas of the knitting.
