Knitting and most crafts are meditative by nature as they encourage you to focus on the present moment and keep a clear mind. Although knitting, crochet, weaving and spinning are generally considered low-impact, the repetitive movements associated with these crafts can cause injuries over time. Liza Laird has used her yoga expertise to develop a series of simple stretches and mindfulness exercises to prevent these common maladies. In this class you will learn meditation, simple streatches, breating exercises, and self massage techniques designed to enhance your crafting. No matter your skill level, these practices can help you craft for longer. All movements can be made while sitting in a chair or while standing and holding onto a chair for support. Class activites are accessible to all fitness levels.
You will learn simple hand and wrist stretches to keep your hands felling flexible and pain-free. You will learn breathing techniques you can use while crafting to keep your nervous system balanced. Liza will also teach simple self massage techniques for the hands and arms.
Materials Needed: Chair (no wheels), Towel or strap, tennis or lacrosse ball, and a water bottle
About the Instructor: Liza started knitting at the age of 8 and hasn't stopped since. She received formal youga training in NYC as a 500 HR Registered Yoga Teacher and an 800 HR Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapist. She taught at studios for nearly a decade in NYC and Boston, like Yoga Works and harlem Yoga Studio. Liza leads yoga retreats worldwide in places like Bali, Thailand, Italy, Peru, and locally in Vermon and Texas.
