A Year in Fiber - Hill Country Weavers Reviews the Best Knitting and Yarn of 2014

by Hill Country Weavers January 06, 2015

Stephen West
It’s that time of year when you reflect on the last twelve months. Perhaps you’re thinking of the fun weekend at the first Knitting in the Hills Retreat, or meeting Stephen and Steven at the store.

Or maybe you’re considering the projects you finished (or almost finished) during the year. Did you knit your first sweater or master intarsia or finally do invisible short rows? Or maybe you just loved the yarn you picked and want some more.

We’re running the numbers and looking back too, and want to share some of our most popular items. For example, our best selling yarn line is still Blue Sky Alpacas. We’ve carried yarn from Blue Sky for many years, and you love it as much as we do. But smaller producers have caught your attention too, with Hedgehog Fibres topping the list. And we can’t keep yarn from local dyer Ana Clerc on the shelves because her Yarn Carnival offerings are sensational.

We’re also very excited that you like our exclusive Hill Country Weavers offerings. For example, more of you bought the HCW book Kismet than any other book in the store! And our top kit is the Gradiente Scarf, with specially chosen colors of Manos lace yarn. You also love our choices for the City Block Shawl and Paintbrush Lace Cowl

Sometimes it’s the little things that make us happy. Like the Knitter’s Tool from Clover. You can pick up stitches with the crochet hook on one end, or use the pointy end to reserve misplaced stitches. Or sometimes it’s bigger things, like the colorful Chicken Boots bags. They range from small notion pouches to project bags big enough to hold a sweater quantity of yarn. Stop by our store in person to find these items in limited quantities.

We’re waving so long to 2014, and looking forward to 2015. A lot of great things are planned, so stay tuned!
