Visions of Sheep Dancing in Our Heads - The Night Before Christmas at the Yarn Store

by Hill Country Weavers December 25, 2014

It’s the day before Christmas, and all through the store,
not a knitter is purling, knitting or more.
All the yarn, hooks and needles are neatly displayed,
Waiting for new projects to be knit or crocheted.

The holidays are a busy time of year for everyone, and we hope that you’re resting by a warm fire, just waiting for Santa to arrive. However, if you’re grafting the toe of that last sock, or attaching a pompom to the last hat, take a moment to imagine the happy faces of the recipients of those hand made gifts.

Then have a big slug of eggnog and start a project just for yourself. Perhaps something to keep your feet toasty warm, like these comfy Turkish Bed Socks (blue on the left) or easy to knit garter stitch slippers (grey below). We used Dream in Color's Smooshy with Cashmere (held single instead of double like the pattern recommends) and Koigu Painters Palette Premium Merino - KPPPM for the trim. After weighing and measuring the sample, we figured out you could make three pairs from one skein of Smooshy! Two for gifts and one for you. This pattern is so quick to knit that they’ll be done before the goose is cooked. And the best part is that you don’t have to wrap them.

We’ve had such a fun year at HCW. We’ve introduced new friends to our flock, showed you new yarns from exciting sources and taught new techniques to interested students. We hope that you’ve enjoyed yourselves as much as we have. And stay tuned, because we’re gathering together a herd of ideas for next year.

So as that right jolly old elf might exclaim:

Happy fiber-ing to all, and to all a good night!
