Make a Weekend of it...

by Kennedy Berry September 03, 2014

YarnCrawlThe 8th Annual Hill Country Yarn Crawl is only a month away. Passports are here and we are thinking ahead to the main event. If you haven't been on a yarn crawl yet, this annual event brings together local yarn shops across the central Texas hill country for 10 fun days. Grab a passport at your first stop and then make it to as many shops as possible for chances to win prizes. Each shop will have a free pattern for crawlers plus a featured yarn on sale as well. For more information on the event, prizes and participating shops, check out the Hill Country Yarn Crawl Website.

Thinking ahead to the main event we've been working on some projects you can finish in just a weekend. These would be fun knits to work up while crawling, or in the weeks coming up to the event so that you've got some new knitwear to show off.

Weekend Wrap

Weekend Wrap by Cocoknits

Weekend Wrap

This flattering quick knit from Cocoknits is worked at a very loose gauge, making it a perfect layering choice for Austin!

For our take we used Debbie Bliss Milano Yarn and added a narrow crochet trim along the front neckline with Habu's N-94 Silk Wrapped Paper.

The added edging gives a little structure to keep the wrap from growing too much, as well as a nice pop of color and finish.

To work this edging you will need a Size C-2 (2.75mm) Crochet hook.

Working into every garter ridge once and every space between ridges twice, work all the way around the front edge in single crochet.

Turn and work one additional row of single crochet.

Turn and work a final edging in reverse single crochet (crab stitch).

Milano Andean Mist N94

Weekend Scarf MediumWeekend Scarf by LondonLeo

This free pattern from London Leo is quick and stylish.

Originally designed with Rowan Cocoon, it takes only 2 skeins (3 if you like your scarves extra long).

Suzanne is whipping up a version  for the shop this weekend using the Debbie Bliss Milano held double with Berroco's new Andean Mist.

We like the combination of color and texture from the Milano mixed with the super-soft alpaca from the Andean Mist. The colors in these two yarns are wonderfully complimentary as well.

Outlander CowlAnother fun and super fast knit is the Outlander Inspired Cowl.

This super-bulky cowl is done on size 50 needles and can be whipped out in just a few hours (Or a couple of episodes of Outlander).

Done up in Debbie Bliss Winter Garden its soft, warm and contains just enough flecks of color to wear with almost anything.

For a less show-authentic style, Winter Garden is also available in some gorgeous tweedy shades to fit into any wardrobe.
