A Rose by any other name...

Its become traditional to give roses on Mother's Day. A symbol of love, gratitude and appreciation - the silky pink and white flowers have come to represent everything we treasure about our Mothers.
As knitter's we love our traditions almost as much as we like finding ways to re-invent them. Take a traditional Shetland lace pattern like Crest of the Wave, for example, paired with a modern yarn like Phydeaux Soie, a fingering weight yarn that has merino and silk in equal measure.

The Shallows scarf pattern is an inspired take on this combination. The bands of lace give the scarf a delicate waved edge that highlights the silky sheen of Soie, while the stockinette panels provide a counterbalance to the lace.

The end result is a scarf that is both delicate and strong, traditional and modern.
On this sweetest day of May, what better gift for a Mother than a sweet little bouquet of rose tinted silk and lace? A bouquet to wear for all the days of the year.
